New Video: U.S. Army Combat Fitness Test with Family
I posted a new YouTube video today, documenting the fun family exercise activity we did yesterday afternoon. The fitness challenge was to see how I would perform on the updated U.S. Army Combat Fitness Test. The test will be official as of October 2020, according to information I found at the Army website. Watch the video below.
Army Training!
The unnecessarily elaborate revised and updated test consists of 6 different events, with pretty low standards. So low that my 11 year old is going to try to pass the minimum standards while I shoot for top marks in all events except the 2 mile run.
All three kids agreed to participate, and they tried really hard. My 11 year old boy was intent on passing the minimum for everything and he did. I rewarded them with treats afterwards, and it was a hugely satisfying way to spend an afternoon.
New Test Requirements
The old fitness test was max repetitions of push-ups in 2 minutes, max repetitions of sit-ups in 2 minutes, and a 2 mile run for time. I saw Mike Thurston and MattDoesFitness do that test and document their efforts on YouTube. So, I thought it would be fun to do that too with the kids. But, I looked up that test and found out it had been revised into a much more involved test.
The new test consists of 6 events:
- 3 rep max deadlift with hex bar.
- Minimum weight is 140 lbs
- Highest score awarded for 340 lbs
- 10 lbs ball throw for distance
- 4.5m minimum
- 12.5m for highest score
- Hand Release Pushups – max in 2min
- 10 reps minimum
- 60 reps for highest score
- Sprint, drag, carry, lateral, sprint medley
- 3:00 minimum
- 1:33 highest score
- Leg Tucks – full tuck, knees to elbow
- 1 rep minimum
- 20 reps for highest score
- Two mile run for time
- 21:00 minimum
- 13:00 for highest score
