Video: Eating OBAD, One Bowl a Day

Summary of the video I made a few weeks ago going through 4 days of just eating a single bowl with 2200-2300 calories in it, and nothing else. The purpose of this video was not to reduce bodyfat or bodyweight, but to challenge myself to get back on track from an adherence perspective. In other words, to re-establish my discipline by basically forcing a 23/1 intermittent fasting protocol for 4 days. Check out the video below.

Bowls – What was in them?

The bowls consisted of a base of around 500-600 calories from peanut butter, because I was trying to clear out some of the many peanut butter jars that were idling n my pantry and taking up space. Beyond that, I tried to mix things up a bit. I made one bowl with a base of snickerdoodle cookie dough from the exercise4cheatmeals recipe.

I tried to fill the top of the bowls with something like cereal or oats. One day I even topped it off with a bunch of popcorn. I also included sugar free syrups, flavored Greek yogurts and other random things. It was really fun, and those precious few minutes when I was crushing that massive bowl was blissful and worth the long wait leading up to it.

Did It Work to De-Load from the Kitchen?

In the run up to the video, I was spending a little too much time in the kitchen. It was taking time away from work I should have been doing, from time with the family, etc. I was making pretty involved anabolic recipes that required many different utensils and pieces of equipment.

Getting away from all that food prep was refreshing for sure. But, I did miss my routine of having a daily anabolic ice cream. There are just so many recipes in the anabolic community these days, it’s hard to decide what to eat some days. It was good to just let go of that and go nuts in a single bowl.

Did It Work to Re-Establish Discipline?

In the weeks after this challenge, I do find that I am adhering to my daily calorie goals. I do think it had a positive impact on my mindset as I seek to regain control over the calorie intake that felt like it was slipping away. I’ve recently started a mini-cut ahead of Spring Break, and so far it has been going well. The plan was to get back down into the low 160s in bodyweight before basically blowing it out for a few weeks in Florida.
