Video: Tips for Road Trips

Staying Shredded while Watching Youth Sports

I threw together a quick video while on a road trip with my son this week. In the video, I share 5 tips on how to stay shredded when managing dad duties at a multi-day event for your kids. The tips are relevant to anyone planning a short weekend trip as well. See the video below.

My 9-year old son and I recently went to our first travel baseball tournament. This one was 2 hours from our house and required a night at a hotel. We were really excited about it, because it was going to be the first time we’d been to a hotel in more than a year. We had a blast. We ate out at fast food places, went swimming in the indoor pool and he played a bunch of baseball. It was a fantastic bonding experience for both of us.

Watch the video for the tips below, but also a few bonus tips.

5 Tips to Stay Shredded on Road Trips

Here are the actual tips. They may seem like common sense, but maybe you’ll spot one you haven’t tried.

  1. Plan ahead
    • Pack some easy protein options, even a shaker bottle with a scoop of protein is better than nothing.
    • Also, don’t forget what you packed!
  2. Get your steps
    • Wander off from the game and get your steps. It’s ok to miss a few of your kid’s highlights, staying shredded has to be the priority!
  3. Get good sleep
    • Make rest a priority, helps you reduce stress and reduces the hours of potential eating.
  4. Stay hydrated and caffeinated and chew gum
    • Anything to keep your mouth busy as you sit around.
  5. Keep your stress level down
    • Go with the flow, don’t get too worked up about how your kid is playing. You’ll make poor food choices if you are more stressed.

These tips helped me on this short weekend trip. I’m embarking on a two week Spring Break trip to Florida next week, which will definitely test my willpower. I don’t expect my physique to improve during the trip, which is fine.

Indoor baseball, pretty sweet.
