Video: Dad Tries K-Pop Eating & Training

Somebody Feed Dad: Episode 2, Dad Tries K-Pop

I published the second episode of my virtual travel series, inspired by Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix. In this episode, Dad tries K-Pop Life for a day. We travel to South Korea, using the knowledge accumulated by my daughter over the last 3 years about K-Pop to eat and train like very famous K-Pop “Idols”. So, we started the video in her room where I gave a small tour of some of the K-Pop fan stuff she has, like light sticks for concerts and lots of magazine posters and cut outs.

Some souvenirs, including some albums and light sticks.

We trained like Wonho from Monsta-X, who is known as the exercise idol, like Sporty Spice or something. He has a reputation for being hardcore about his training. So, we did 90 minutes of cardio, a weight session and an ab workout, following his protocol.

Gross Shake

Then, we tried to follow the quirky diet of Jackson Wang, an extremely popular idol who is known for his gross protein smoothie thing. These idols are so overexposed and are interviewed so much, that I guess they ran out of content one day and decided to have Jackson make his smoothie on camera, which was really convenient.

Jackson Wang from Got7 on MTV drinking his shake.

The shake was gross and totally not convenient. Each of the ingredients by themselves would have been much better than the combination. Here are the ingredients for the shake he made:

  • Cabbage and broccoli
  • Orange
  • Grapes
  • Apple
  • Honey
  • Ice
  • Chicken Breast
  • Water

I substituted Walden Farms syrup for honey and spinach for the cabbage. Total calories were 462 with 53g of protein. I don’t think being true to his shake would have changed the taste much. Jackson Wang apparently drinks such a shake every day.

Dance Practice

We finished the video with some dance practice. The dancing was pitiful, I clearly have no rhythm, but we were laughing the whole time. I think I earned the respect of the kids for trying.

So it was a pretty intense day, but the mission was accomplished. I learned about K-Pop, bonded with my daughter and had fun. Check out the video if you want to be able to impress your kids with some small knowledge of K-Pop.

If not, no big deal, we’ll have another episode of Somebody Feed Dad at some point that might peak your interest.
