Video: Eating & Training Albanian for a Day

Today, I published my latest YouTube video. The idea was to do my own version of the Netflix TV show I’ve been enjoying called “Somebody Feed Phil”. Phil Rosenthal was one of the creators of Everybody Loves Raymond. I’ve enjoyed him as a guest on podcasts like the Adam Carolla Show over the years and he’s a really fun and happy guy.

I thought it would be a fun video idea to start a virtual “Somebody Feed Dad” series where I try food and training from other places in the world. Will Tennyson has done this on his channel, but he never did Albania.

Episode 1 with full frontal dad.

My wife of 16 years was raised in Albania and lived there until she was 18 years old before coming to the U.S. for college in a very sudden departure. But, like a character in “The Americans”, she barely has an accent.

We’ve carried over some of the culture to our family. My kids refer to me as Baba (and only call me “Dad” in these video intros). My wife makes many special Albanian dishes, including rice pudding called something that sounds like “choo cho”, meatballs called qofta, and of course pastry dough filled with cheese and spinach called “byrek”, which is like the what the Greeks call “spanakopita”.

So, on this day, I ate Albania’s version of French Toast. I ate some traditional Albanian pastry style dishes like byrek. I did not partake of the giant mayonnaise-filled Russian Salad my father-in-law whipped up. We also didn’t make the traditional Albanian chicken and yogurt dish Tuf Cosi, but we’ve made that frequently in my house in the past.

While Albania has had some relatively famous Olympic weightlifters in its history, it isn’t really known for athletics. I asked my relatives what they thought an Albanian workout would be. They said soccer and walking. I did that and some calisthenics for the workout portion of the video.

Finally, I indulged in treats like Baklava and Kataifi (not pictured). The local European market in Broomall, PA was well-stocked with the necessary items to enjoy a true Eastern European feast.

Episode 2 Thoughts? Stay Tuned…

Please comment below where you think I should “travel” to next. I am thinking South Korea could be fun because my daughter has intense knowledge of Korean Pop Stars, and some of them have well-publicized workout regimens.

It was filmed on New Year’s Eve, and originally I planned to run it sooner, but instead I made a 100-subscriber ice cream video I’m sure you checked out.

More fun videos to come. If you’d like to come along with me, go subscribe to the channel, big things coming that will see more collaboration from me across the anabolic community.
