DadLifting in Dallas: YouTube Episode 5

I posted my 5th YouTube video over the weekend. The content of the video covered tips for staying fit and strong while traveling for work. It also includes discussion of DOMS, and updates on how things are going with training and bulking. I think its really good, but not many of you checked it out…yet. So here it is.

The tips about sticking with your nutrition plan basically comes down to a little extra effort, a little extra planning.  So if your motivation is on point, there’s no reason progress towards your goals should go off the rails. Specifics aren’t important, bring some food with you, buy some food at a grocery store, save some calories for dinners you have to attend at night. Basically, don’t be an asshole.

On the training side, sometimes you can’t or can’t be bothered to find a barbell gym and are forced to make do with the hotel gym. On weeks when I am out for more than a few days, I try to squeeze in an extra weight training session.

Also, I talk about how I went to Destination Dallas and to D-Town Crossfit during my stay, and I also met with the owner of BATL Performance. That was in addition to 2 days of a conference and a Mavs game. Pretty active few days!

Some facts about my videos so far:

  • Each of the 5 videos has been more than 10 minutes long.
  • Each one has featured footage of me training in my garage.
  • 4 of the 5 have featured some fun intro video that related to a popular movie.
  • Views for the videos have been declined sequentially (i.e. my first video was viewed the most, this one the least)

And up until this one, each featured me talking directly into the camera in my basement. Instead, in this one I spoke into the camera from my hotel room in Dallas.

Also, this was the first video that featured footage from a film. That part was easier to execute than I thought it would be. I grabbed the clip from YouTube, downloaded it and pulled it into the editor like any clip I made myself. It was so easy, I might slip a few more clips in here and there to break up the monotony of me droning on about weightlifting stuff.

Some things I might try in future videos:

  • Talking less
  • More vlogging
  • Shorter videos in general
  • Videos on a particular topic with list format, plus catchy clickbait title
  • Video tour of the garage gym setup
  • Interviews or some kind of featured guest, let me know if you want to come on

My enthusiasm has not waned in the least, because I knew it would be many many videos before anyone showed interest. If you’ve been here from the start, thanks, and please comment on the videos with any topics I should cover. Also, you are all doing a fantastic job of keeping it on the DL!
